How do I use -update to upload all patches and updates at once?

ex. "C:\Documents and Settings\Darryl\My Documents\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"

What do I replace or add? I also searched for it and only got 71 pages of recent updates not how to use -update.

check on guildwiki.org at http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Command_line for explanation.

It's basically adding a second shortcut to your desktop and adding the command to the target string

Do it overnight, while you are sleeping. It's much less stressful.

Afterwards you can use -image and -password command to speed up your load and log-in.

My Gw.DAT file is horribly fragmented, and my Windows Disk Defragger keeps insisting that my drive needs to be defragged. Should I delete it, run the -image switch, and wait overnight? (Because there is no such -update switch, right?)

That's one idea, Bargamer. But I seem to remember a single file defragmenter tool posted around here a while back.

Link, please? Also, assuming a Cable Modem's DL speed, how long would doing those two ways take?

No idea how long it would take. Run it overnight, or when you're not gonna use the computer for a while.

the single file defrager wont' fix all of the problems with a bad .Dat file.. if you have the speed and the time to redownload then i would suggest doing that...if its more of problem that you don't have the time or the internet connection to do a "fast" download then try the defrager first. I think if you do some searching on Dat file size it will show you what your current Dat file should be...i think around 3.8 gig hehe although mine is currently 6.8 :P but it still works :P

And -image is the command switch.

Create a shortcut with exactly following in the target line:
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image

Use this shortcut to fully update you game. It will not run the game normally for you, so don't replace your regular shortcut with it.

IF YOU HAVE the CD/Retail version...
To get a clean DAT without downloading the whole DAT again:
(Make sure you have enough disk space)

1.) Run gw.exe -image to get all files. (If your installation of Guild wars is already up to date, skip this step)

2.) Then copy these folders and files (as indicated) from the GuildWars CD into a NEW folder ("GWINSTALL") on your hard drive:

Setup.exe
\Data
\Data\cdrom.ini
\Data\config.ini
\Data\Gw
\Data\Gw\GwSetup.exe

3.) After the files and folders are copied modify \Data\cdrom.ini to this:

[CDROM]
Program=Guild Wars
Chapter=
Disc=1

4.) Move your Gw.dat file to the "GWINSTALL" \Data\Gw folder

5.) Uninstall Guild Wars from Windows Control Panel

6.) Reinstall Guild Wars from the copied files on your hard drive by running setup.exe from the folder you created.

Here is a link to a download program recommended by PCWorld magazine http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...l?tk=nl_hsxdwn

It's freeware and supposedly outperforms BitTorrent.

I don't think there's much you can do about your fragmented GW.dat file. Most games lately use this "huge file" coding. As soon as you install GW the files will be fragged. I noticed this same thing with most other games I installed. A specific example would be F.E.A.R. That game creates a TON of fragmentation.
